Urban fragments was a video installation - urban interventions project that was researching creative mapping and intertextual exercises dialoguing with the urban palimsest and transposing material collected in one environment to a completely different one. the whole research was made in internet, where people from different cities in the world have mapped their journeys, swapping then the maps and imprinting the new maps on their own streets, documenting on video.
the resuts of this process was edited by me and crosses with calvino's text: "Invisible cities".

A 30 minute video installation.
The work is focusing on how the relationship between the self and the other can be mediated on the space, (especially the urban space), investigating ways in which a documentation process can approach subjective aspects of the movement of people on the city, being at the same time, the act of telling a story, the story itself. Or, in other words: Documenting can be responsable for creating the subject of the documentation.
The installation is based on the idea of looking to the city as an inhabitable media. The city is seen here as a complex and multilayered space that overlaps history, language, culture, imaginary, etc, and by its rich symbolical environment has potentially uncountable narratives already imprinted on it.
This installation is a compillation of atempts to extract (or to imprint) portraits of everyday life renegociating at the same time the use of the urban surfaces.
During the last few months I have been collecting testimonials of subjective experiences connected to a certain everyday trajectory in urban spaces. From this material I have prepared documents with pictures, maps and texts, that (filtered and adapted) refered to the original material received. This documents have travelled through internet and arrived elsewhere, where the task was then to ‘re-imprint’ the material received, on the personal urban landscape.
The videos (which were also taken with everyday life tools) are result of the free association and of the apropriation of the traces of each other rountines. The game created here is a sequence of documentation layers, where the representation of life and life itself mix up so as fiction and reality in public spaces (physical or virtual spaces).
